Tanzania yellow fever requirements

Tanzania asks some travellers to show a yellow fever vaccination certificate on arrival. Whether you need one depends on where you are travelling from, not on your nationality.

Who needs a certificate

  • Travellers arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Kenya is on this list, so guests combining Kenya and Tanzania usually need a certificate.
  • Travellers who spend 12 hours or more in transit in a yellow fever risk country.
  • Travellers flying directly from Europe, North America or other non-risk countries generally do not need one, although your doctor may still recommend the vaccine.

Good to know

  • Have the vaccine at least 10 days before you arrive. One dose is considered valid for life.
  • Carry the original International Certificate of Vaccination (the yellow card), not a photocopy.
  • Children under one year and adults over 60 are generally exempt. If you cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, ask your doctor for a signed exemption letter.
  • Without a valid certificate, you may be vaccinated at the border for a fee or refused entry.

Other health advice

Entry rules change. This page was last reviewed in October 2026; we confirm the latest requirements for your nationality when you book.
