Frequently asked questions

Can wheelchair users go on safari in Tanzania?

Yes. Game viewing happens from the vehicle, so wheelchair users can enjoy the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire like any other guest. We use ramp-equipped vehicles and choose lodges with step-free routes and accessible bathrooms.

Which Tanzania lodges are wheelchair accessible?

Access varies from room to room. We have inspected lodges such as Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Safari Lodge, Ndutu Safari Lodge and Moivaro Coffee Lodge in Arusha, and we check every other property against your needs before booking.

Do your safari vehicles have wheelchair ramps?

Yes. Our Land Cruisers carry portable or dual-track ramps, and our team assists with every transfer. Tell us whether you transfer to a seat or prefer to stay in your chair and we will arrange the right set-up.

Is the Ngorongoro Crater accessible?

The crater floor is explored entirely by vehicle, so it is well suited to wheelchair users. The rim lodges sit at around 2,300 metres and evenings are cold, so pack warm layers.

When is the best time for an accessible safari in Tanzania?

June to October is dry, with easier roads and good game viewing. December to March brings the calving season in the southern Serengeti. We avoid the heaviest rains in April and May.

Can you arrange equipment such as shower chairs?

Yes. Shower chairs, commode chairs, portable ramps and wheelchairs can be arranged on request, alongside accessible airport transfers.
